Belle of Singapore
(Claudia Scott)

Let me tell you about a lady
Who has just turned ninety-four
She has seen the world a-changing
She’s survived many a war
In a little house in Brighton
Where the sea rolls to the shore
Lives the lady with her daughter
She was the belle of Singapore

Now it all began in Bangkok
Born with Pisces in her moon
The girl became a woman
Tied her wedding band inn June
Little did she know
What life had in store
The year was nineteen-twenty
She was the belle of Singapore

The years went by, she bore her children
Lost her husband in the war
At the age of fifty-seven
Fate closed another door
It was goodbye forever
To the life she’d known before
For a cold and foreign country
Embarked the belle of Singapore

Her life has been a journey
Like a boat afloat the sea
Adapting to the waters
And to where the current leads
Now her body’s old and frail
Though her spirit’s like before
’Cause when I look into her eyes
I see the belle of Singapore
